Bala Cynwyd, Philadelphia

Nathan and his family lived in the Philadelphia of Bala Cynwyd for 18 months. This was their home. The suburb was named by Welsh railway workers almost 200 years earlier. Welsh names are common in this district. Many of the homes are built of stone. The lots are large; Nathan rented house was on a half acre. Almost all these homes were built at a time when garages were built away from the house. House prices were low comparable to Sydney/Melbourne. More than 90% of homes in Bala Cynwyd were occupoied by Jewish families. Nathan neighbour, a gentleman in his nineties, told me he was the first Jew to buy in this suburb. Why? Well, the Jews in this area have a law that they must live in walking distance of their temple. Most of these photos were taken in 2019. A few were taken a year earlier.
